Our Beginnings
St. John's School is proud to be a part of the long and wonderful history of
St. John's Parish celebrating over 300 years of service to God and the people
of St. Mary's County.
The school opened on September 12, 1923, with an enrollment of 50 students. Two
sisters of Charity of Nazareth, with the help of the pastor, Father Joseph M.
Johnson, S.J., taught classes in the sacristy of St. John's Church and in a second
story room overhead.
The white frame section of the current school was completed as a single building
in 1924. The brick addition was added almost 30 years later. A fundraising campaign
is currently underway to meet the needs of our growing parish by building a multi-purpose
hall and renovating our school building.
